Lithology and Thickness

It is represented by the alternation of quartz medium-coarse-grained sandstones, claystones, clays, and carbonaceous rocks. Power is 60-100 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The Jurassic deposits lie with a sharp angular unconformity on the Paleozoic rocks

Upper contact

They are overlain discordantly by the Upper Cretaceous.

Regional extent

In the southern part of the Turkestan region, J1+2 deposits are exposed along the rivers Kshut, Zauran, Rivat, Surhat. The most complete sections are known in the area of the Kshut coal deposit.
